The priesthood finds its source in Jesus Christ. It is by the priest’s consecration that he is united to Jesus in such a way that Christ works through the priest in each of the sacraments. To be a priest is to be the meeting place between God and man. Through the priest, the people of God experience a guaranteed encounter with God.
Each day of the week is different for the diocesan parish priest. The needs of the people of God touch on all aspects of life. From meeting with someone despairing about relationships in their family to bringing communion to the sick to meeting with a couple to prepare for marriage to going to a family’s house for a house blessing and dinner. The tasks of the priest vary, but the mission always remains the same: the salvation of souls. “I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some.” (1 Cor 9:22b) In everything that the priest does, he attempts to help people recognize how active God is in their lives and how much the Lord desires to grow deeper in a personal relationship with them.
If you think that God might be calling you to the priesthood, contact Fr. Tim or Fr. Garrett to set up a meeting. Discernment about one’s call from God never happens alone, and the Church is filled with joy to walk with you as we see what Christ is doing in your life.
